Description

Cleemy Desu Wayo discovered that XZ Utils incorrectly handled certain filenames. If a user or automated system were tricked into performing xzgrep operations with specially crafted filenames, a remote attacker could overwrite arbitrary files. Update Instructions: Run `sudo ua fix USN-5378-2` to fix the vulnerability. The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following package versions: liblzma5 – 5.2.2-1.3ubuntu0.1 liblzma-doc – 5.2.2-1.3ubuntu0.1 liblzma-dev – 5.2.2-1.3ubuntu0.1 xz-utils – 5.2.2-1.3ubuntu0.1 xzdec – 5.2.2-1.3ubuntu0.1 No subscription required

Mitigation

Users of affected products are strongly encouraged to follow the mitigations below.

The Cloud Foundry project recommends upgrading the following releases:

  • Bionic Stemcells
    • Upgrade 1.x versions to 1.79 or greater
    • All other stemcells should be upgraded to the latest version available on bosh.io.
  • cflinuxfs3
    • Upgrade all versions to 0.285.0 or greater
  • CF Deployment
    • Upgrade all versions to 20.0.0 or greater and upgrade Bionic Stemcells to 1.79 or greater
