SAN FRANCISCO — July 24, 2018 — The Cloud Foundry Foundation, home of a family of open source projects including Cloud Foundry Application Runtime, Cloud Foundry Container Runtime and Cloud Foundry BOSH, today announced they are joining the “Call for Code” initiative with founding partner IBM and creator David Clark Cause to help harness the collective power of the global open source developer community against the growing threat of natural disasters.
For 2018, the Call for Code Global Challenge asks developers to create solutions that significantly improve preparedness for natural disasters when they hit. This competition is the first of its kind at this scale, encouraging developers who want to pay their skills forward for a specific mission to alleviate human suffering.
“As we prepare for the inevitable consequences of major weather events, who better than the vast communities of open source developers to improve preparedness? Developers have the power to change the world, and this initiative proves it,” said Abby Kearns, Executive Director, Cloud Foundry Foundation. “We are honored to join founding partner IBM and creator David Clark Cause in this hyper critical initiative.”
The United Nations Human Rights Office and the American Red Cross are among the charitable partners in Call for Code. Those organizations will present the inaugural Call for Code Global Prize at a benefit concert in San Francisco on October 29, 2018.
